The cleanup begins

We officially took possession of the boat last Saturday and went down to start cleaning it up and take a little inventory.  There’s a lot of stuff on the boat that’s just getting thrown away – old cleaning supplies, bedding, expired stuff (medical kit and flares in particular).  I think we used up our trash disposal allotment for the month at the marina as we hauled about half a dozen trashbags out of the boat.  We still haven’t gotten to the main storage area though so we have another half dozen to go.  Once we get it all off, we’ll clean and clean and clean.  I don’t want to give the impression the boat is trashed because it’s not.  It’s just like any place someone owns for a few years, stuff accumulates.  Add in that it basically sat empty for 2-3 years and it just needs a little work to make it what it should be.

First thing up on the to-do list: plumbing.  The water tanks need a good flushing out and cleaning as do all the water hoses.  The heads are pretty much unusable – most of the rubber gaskets, etc. have dry rotted or frozen up due to lack of use.  Being that a regular man is a happy man, I gotta get that fixed up ASAP. Once we have all that done, we’re essentially good to spend weekends or several days at a time on board comfortably.
